The Kirkby Collaborative are working with Kirkby SciBar to try and promote engagement in the meetings. The meetings are promoted with pupils from Year 6 upwards, parents and carers, staff and Governors.
SciBars are simply science in a bar or a Social Club. Every month we bring you a different scientist who leads a discussion about their research. Come and enjoy a drink and a lively scientific discussion at the Kirkby SciBar. You don’t need to know any science at all. Enquiring minds are particularly welcome.
Kirkby SciBar is part of the North West Branch of the British Science Association and meets on the third Tuesday of every month in Holy Angels Social Club, Sydney Powell Avenue, L32 0TP in Westvale.
Kirkby SciBar is run by local volunteers.
Meetings run from 7.00pm to 9.00pm and all are welcome. The talks are accessible and suitable for older primary school children and anyone above that – basically from 10 to 110!
The next meeting is on Tuesday 15th May 2018. The topic is called Introduction to the wonderful world of spiders
Did you know there are 650 types of spider in the United Kingdom? Come and find out more about spiders with Eloise.
Eloise, a former committee member of the British Arachnoligical Society, has been interested in spiders and their behaviours for over 30 years. An amateur enthusiast and early member of the British Tarantula Society, Eloise moved on to study spiders from this country and completed surveys in Anglesey and the Isle of Man under the spider recording scheme
